Velveteen: Poem

And I
     am velveteen
no longer patched–
     over muslin,
not silk nor cashmere;
     but worn thin
between thumb and
     forefinger–diaphonous,
so the curve of my
     heart and its happy
thrum is bared through
     this thin veil of
gauze. touch me and
     see. I am soft–
loved into real.
