31-ish Days of Prayer: Prayer for a Journey by Thomas Merton

My Lord God,

I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me
Nor do I really know myself,
And the fact that I think I am following your will
Does not mean that I am actually doing so.

But I believe that the desire to please you
Does in fact please you.
And I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.

And I know that if I do this,
You will lead me by the right road
Though I may know nothing about it.
Therefore will I trust you always though,
I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death.
I will not fear, for you are ever with me.
And you will never leave me to face my struggles alone.

Amen

    Dear Laura
What a delicate prayer admitting our complete dependency on our Pappa. Oh, we cannot give Him anything or do anything except love Him. Like Paul tells us in Acts that He is not served by human hands!

Hi Laura….Cheri Bunch and I were just recently sharing your name together. I pulled away from the “computer world” during my cancer journey, but have returned and it’s delightful to find you here. I too have been participating in the “The Nester’s” 31 days of writing. (I started about 3 days later, so will extend the commitment into November to fulfill my 31 days.) It’s been great returning to my blog and sharing my every day, intimate moments with the Savior.

I love the prayer you shared here. I have a friend who treasures Thomas Merton as her favourite writer. Interestingly enough, today was the first day I took a small “break” on my blog by posting a song instead of writing, but it ties in so beautifully with your 31-Days of Prayer. I posted a video of “The Prayer”. You might like to listen to it, but I’m sure you’re familiar with the song. Yes Lord, guide us with Your grace. http://www.ponderinginhispresence.blogspot.ca/2013/10/guide-us-with-your-grace.html

A blessing to reconnect. May the Lord continue to use you for His glory.

PS. I scrolled through several of your posts. Couldn’t believe how big your boys are now! Handsome young men.
